Book Review: Magic without Mercy (Allie Beckstom #8) by Devon Monk

Magic Without Mercy (Allie Beckstrom, #8)Magic Without Mercy by Devon Monk
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Like the previous novels in this series, this one was action packed. It was also had a lot more of the character development, which I noticed more because 1. Allie has stopped whining/complaining and 2. You got to know more about the other characters.

The situation just keeps on getting more intense, more potent and harder to fix. Love it!

The one thing that still bothers me is about the Authority. You would think that suck an old organization would have better abilities to make sure everyone and everything is as it should be. Granted, magic was never known thing for the entire civilian population, but I would think they would have ways to track if one of the heads in the organization was losing it or changed dramatically.

Book Review: Magic on the Line by Devon Monk

Magic on the Line (Allie Beckstrom, #7)Magic on the Line by Devon Monk

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

More like 4.5 Stars

I want to say that so far of this series this has been one of my favorites.

Yes, Zay has changed. Yes, Allie is changing. To be honest, most of the characters are becoming more complex, even Alli's Dad. I think these things are expected and I would be more upset if the characters didn't change! And I totally feel for them all because there is no rest for the wicked in this series. It has been one major mojo after another, but this is why we read books - the thrill of the story. And this story is getting bigger, deeper and more impacting.

I am liking the series the more I read it. Can't wait to get my hands on the next installment.

Book Review: Magic on the Hunt by Devon Monk

Magic on the Hunt (Allie Beckstrom, #6)Magic on the Hunt by Devon Monk

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Book 6 of the Allie Beckstrom is starting to finally get closer to the nut of this series. You learn more about what's really been going on and how what was thought as the big picture, well, it wasn't quite big enough!

I like how Allie seems to be finally be growing deeper as a character. She's not as whiny and always hating on life, she's more a team player and even though she still gets the crap beaten out of her, it's not all about her in this segment.

There is a lot of really good tension, change and action in this novel. I feel like it's better than #5 in this series. Yes, Allie still has a lot of questions and she's slightly behind the curve on the history of the Authority, but there is better fluency between her and the other characters.

I also loved reading more about Shame and Terric. Personally, I am a bit in love with Shame's character.

Overall, I am more excited to read the rest of the novels in this series now :) This was a great kick it up a notch book!

What I'm Reading Now

Touch the Dark (Cassandra Palmer, Book 1) by Karen Chance

I've read other books by Karen Chance, like Midnight's Daughter and Fury's Kiss, so I know I like the author and her style of writing. I also know that the Cassandra Palmer series has at least 5 books in it and another on the way, so I am hoping that I like it. That way I can alternate between Devon Monk's Allie Beckstrom series and this one for a while without getting bored (and of course intermixed with other authors/books as well!)

Just started reading this last night so I'm only like 30 pages in.
