Seriously Large Sunflower

I had my kid attempt to hold the stalk of this massive sunflower back a little bit so I could get a good picture. He had a hard time with that since it's so freaking heavy! My kid is now 5'8"...

I am coming to believe that whatever grows in my garden, can get immense and somewhat what of a mutant. Great....I will have a mutant growing possessed plant garden next year >.<

I am patiently waiting for this one to wilt so I can then hang it (in the attic more than likely) to finish drying out :) This one is just, huge!

Pretty flowers...or invasive smothering domineering weeds??

Pretty Morning Glories...that REALLY can take over.

I have found them snaking up my sunflowers and basically starting all along my side fence in the back yard. The below pictures are from just outside my fence, where I park. They have been sneaky and got through the small slits in my fence and underneath it...and the fact I am finding them up close and personal to the back of my house is kinda freaky.

Very pretty in the morning. I do not want, however, to have them cover everything else. So. I will be ripping the ones out in my backyard a little bit each day.

More Sunflowers and Garden stuff

Sadly, one of my tomatoes didn't do too well, had bottom rot (too much water I was told). Let's hope these beauties do better!

See how freaking TALL this sunflower is!! I'm 5'8", my fence is 6'

 It's kinda funny, this itty bitty sunflower is getting ready to bloom it looks like!

My sunflower...has lost it's head!

I have 2 sunflowers where something (more than likely a bird) has eaten the sunflowers head...before it could really bloom. I have 2 sunflowers that still have heads...but I'm wondering if I should be put a paper bag over them or something. Time to do some research!!

Here is a lovely look at the this incredibly annoying oriental grass that is no longer in my back yard.

 

Where it used to be in my back yard - between the sunflower and this other flowering bush that I have no idea of what it is.

Flowers and Trees part 2

My sunflowers are seriously growing :) This one below, is over 6' now!! WOW

I can't wait until they actually flower!!

 

I am pretty sure this is another crape myrtle - and we're pretty sure about 1/2 of it died. We're in the process of removing those limbs and branches that are dead so that new growth can take over. Of course, we are also pruning off some of those crazier/wilder branches as well.

Now that it's finally starting to flower, it really helps to see what survived and what didn't. I do love the softer pink of this tree :)

My poor tree

I have a crape myrtle tree. Whatever the weather did the other day, made it sad.

 

It's almost like there was a down pour in the center of it!!

 

Cleaning out the weeds and possessed plants

Yes, the crazy pile of dead bush and trees is GONE. Along with the spiders, webs and all kinds of bugs and OMFG you should have seen the huge ass worms. It was freaky!

Ahem.

Notice the lack of massive amounts of weeds?? Heehee, it looks soooo much better now!

Oh and this? This is where that freaky possessed plant with all the roots WAS. Let me know tell you, I have never whacked at something, cut 80% of it out and have it BLOOM like it was nothing. I mean, seriously, it was creepy!

What it was, was a bush/tree possessed thing that grew between another tree and split it. And they both kept growing. Ugh, but at least it's now gone :) This part was the very center of it, the heart of it. Put all the other roots and whatnot in the yard waste bags, this piece will get its own spot on the side walk for trash pick up :)

Don't ask me what happened to this Sun Flower...it's divided on what to do ?? It's not growing anymore though...so weird...
