To Tame A Highland Warrior by Karen Marie Moning

I thought that this 2nd installment in the Highland series was really good.

The angst over long held emotions from both the main characters was intense. The leading hero, Grimm, in denial about so many things, has to face the facts. He felt so, soulful and real, that I was able to really appreciate his character all the more. He did frustrate me a bit, male stubborn-ness, in not listening (to himself and others) and dealing with things. The leading heroine, Jillian, was smart and kind and I really loved how she just did what was in her heart.

It was really rewarding to see the characters come to their respective realizations, all the while dealing with the mayhem of marriage and fueds and family.

The author, I think, outdid herself in this novel. It was not cookie cutter formulae but still held that intense intrigue that kept me glued to the book, having to read it or else.

Can't wait to read the next one!

Spell of the Highlander by Karen Marie Moning

I actually read this book first, out of the series, by accident. Even though I could tell that there were some history with the other characters, it certainly didn't take away from this story.

The leading female character, Jesse St. James, strong-independent-smart, but also annoying. The leading male character, Cian, is a 9th century somewhat cave man-ish but hunky male. I liked how he was selfless about what needed to be done, but not how he sometimes treated Jesse.

I did like the fact that Jesse was immune to his and others magical charms. That part of the plot worked for me and I think made the story more interesting.

It was an easy, magical romantic read with some action thrown in. It didn't seem like an amazingly written must be read book, but it was very enjoyable.

Now I just need to read the rest of the series.

What I'm Reading Next

Beyond the Highland Mist by Karen Marie Moning

I accidently read the most recent of this series, without reading any of the prior books. I hate it when I do that. I could tell I was missing some of the character insights, but it was still a really good book...So, I decided to start from the top :) Thankfully I am pull these books from my local and state library, which makes this easier and cheaper.

Just starting this book today :) Hopefully I will be able to finish it in a couple days.
